Choosing The Right Generator

Portable generators are not strong enough to power your entire home. Decide which appliances you plan to use during an outage and calculate how much power they require. Find a generator whose running wattage is large enough to power these appliances.

In most cases, you will want to purchase a generator whose running wattage is between 4,400 and 10,000 watts. Generators smaller than 4,000 watts are, in most instances, ill-suited for powering a home during an outage as they cannot start many appliances. Generators larger than 10,000 watts are often expensive, difficult to move, noisy, and will not work with the GenerLink transfer switch.

Once you have found the portable generator you plan to purchase, check that it is compatible with the GenerLink by using the link below. If you can not find your generator on this list, please call (800) 886-3837.

There are two models of the GenerLink transfer switch currently available:

MA23 (30-Amp): This model of the GenerLink works with portable generators that have a running wattage below 8,500 watts.
MA24 (40-Amp): This model of the GenerLink works with portable generators that have a running wattage below 10,000 watts.

GenerLok Power Cable

We recommend measuring the distance between your portable generator and the location where the GenerLink will be installed to decide how long you need your GenerLok cord to be. The GenerLink comes with a FREE 20-foot GenerLok cable, and you can upgrade to a longer length if you need it. We currently offer the GenerLok as a 20, 40, 60, 80, or 100-foot long cord.

Plug Options

There are currently three plug options available:

L14-30 Locking: Delivers up to 30 amps of power to your home.

L14-50 Straight: Delivers up to 40 amps of power to your home.
